Previously with Webber+Studio, our founder, Ayesha Erkin, transformed a historic Freedman's cottage into a modern living space while preserving its architectural significance. The project seamlessly connects the original two-room cottage to a contemporary addition through a thoughtfully designed kitchen area, demonstrating our ability to bridge past and present.

The design's centerpiece features a dramatic 12-foot skylight matching a custom bent steel island, bringing natural light into previously dark spaces. This innovative approach to space and light maintains the cottage's historic character while introducing modern functionality, creating a dialogue between heritage and contemporary design.

The project garnered significant recognition, including features on the AIA Austin Homes Tour and in Dwell Magazine's Top 10 Mullet Homes of 2020. Published by Re-Thinking the Future, this renovation exemplifies our commitment to creating spaces that honor history while embracing modern living.
